Abstract

This article describes a method of handling confirmation for distributions which may be aggregates having a folder relationship. A folder is a type of document which can itself contain other documents, some of which may be folder documents. The folder relationship can be described and mailed as an object with the accompanying documents throughout an electronic office system. For the purposes of this article, references will be made to a Folder aggregate, which will be used to refer to an entire folder and all of the documents which comprise it, and to a Folder element, which will be used to refer to any element contained within a Folder aggregate. A Folder element could be a single document, or another multi-document aggregate, such as a Staple or another Folder.

Confirmation Log Entry for Documents Within a Folder

This article describes a method of handling confirmation
for distributions which may be aggregates having a folder
relationship. A folder is a type of document which can itself contain
other documents, some of which may be folder documents.  The folder
relationship can be described and mailed as an object with the

the documents which comprise it, and to a Folder element, which will
be used to refer to any element contained within a Folder aggregate.
A Folder element could be a single document, or another
multi-document aggregate, such as a Staple or another Folder.

aggregate levels.

      Folder-Element-Level Confirmation When confirmation is
requested at an element level, a description of each Folder element

The log entry denotes that the distribution is a Folder aggregate and
includes an itemized list of all documents that make up the Folder
aggregate that will be sent as part of the distribution.  The type of
confirmation being requested is also logged.

The distribution contains an indicator requesting the type of
Confirmation being requested, i.e., element-level confirmation. The
destination server sends the confirmation when such action is taken
on either the entire Folder aggregate or on each Folder element
contained within it.  A Folder element will be fully qualified per
the rules outlined i...
