Abstract

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby an enterprise can determine if an event has occurred which invalidates the integrity of a document. Documents which are considered working documents may need to specify at what point the document may be considered invalid. A mechanism is needed which permits enterprises to interchange information regarding the occurrence of an event. No mechanism currently exists in the DIA services which identifies if a particular event has occurred which invalidates a document.

Identifying Events Which Have Invalidated a Document

This article describes a mechanism for IBM's Document
Interchange Architecture (DIA) Services whereby  an enterprise can
determine if an event has occurred which invalidates the integrity of
a document.  Documents which are considered working documents may
need to specify at what point the document may be considered invalid.
A mechanism is needed which permits enterprises to interchange
information regarding the occurrence of an event.  No mechanism
currently exists in the DIA services which identifies if a particular
event has occurred which invalidates a document.

The Interchange Document Profile (IDP) is currently used by DIA
services to describe the characteristics of a document as a whole.
By providing a self-defining field within the IDP which defines the
event and a field which can articulate a boolean value which dictates
if the event has occurred permits enterprises to interchange
information as to when a document can be considered invalid.
Enterprises upon identifying that the particular event has occurred
can mark the boolean field as being true, thus signifying that the
event has occurred and that the document may be considered invalid.
