Abstract

Consider a computer calendar system which allows notes for a day to be entered, which also appear when the calendar day is printed. One of the types of entries users of electronic calendars wish to make are for items which are phone calls to make on or before a particular day. This method provides an easy way to enter such call item information. A call item is a notation of the form: call:whom phone call topic where "call" is a tag that identifies the entry as a call item entry; "whom" is the name of the person or company to call; "number" is an optional phone number or extension; and "phone call topic" is the reason for or result of the phone call. Refer to the figure. This shows a typical page of a printed calendar with call items.

Calendar Call Items

Consider a computer calendar system which allows notes
for a day to be entered, which also appear when the calendar day is
printed.  One of the types of entries users of electronic calendars
wish to make are for items which are phone calls to make on or before
a particular day.  This method provides an easy way to enter such
call item information.  A call item is a notation of the form:
call:whom <number> phone call topic
where "call" is a tag that identifies the entry as a call item entry;
"whom" is the name of the person or company to call; "number" is an
optional phone number or extension; and "phone call topic" is the
reason for or result of the phone call.  Refer to the figure.  This
shows a typical page of a printed calendar with call items.  The
columns contain the information entered in the call item as well as
room for handwritten notations and for recording the result of the
phone call when completed.

Additionally, one or more blank call item page may be requested
and printed to provide additional space for handwritten call items
during the day.

      New to this method are:
      1. a means for easily entering call items using a simple
mnemonic tag.
     2. a means for printing call items in a way that contains the
information about the call item.
