Disclosed is a method for retaining a voltage regulator module (VRM) to a printed wire board (PWB). Benefits include improved functionality, improved performance, and improved process simplification.

Background

              Electrical assemblies (parts) may require multiple steps for assembly. Allowance must be made for motion tolerance during the assembly process. After assembly, parts can become loose.

              Measurement is required of the maximum vertical height (Z-height) of the part after assembly.

      The conventional solution includes a VRM and a PWB. The part includes a push-in rivet that can come loose after assembly. An assembly bar enables the horizontal (X/Y) movement of the VRM but requires an additional assembly step (see Figure 1).
