Abstract

The OS/2* Extended Edition Version 1.2 Communications Manager (CM) allows users to interactively configure its X.25 feature to work on any public X.25 network worldwide. To accomplish this goal, the CM allows users to specify a large number of X.25 network parameters (for more detailed information on these parameters and how the CM allows you to interactively configure them, please refer to the "OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.2 System Administrator's Guide for Communications"). These parameters are broken down into the following groups: + Base Link Parameters + Virtual Circuit Ranges + Frame Parameters + Packet Timeouts + Virtual Circuit Parameters + Permanent Virtual Circuit Parameters

Interactive Creation and Editing of the X.25 Link Profile

The OS/2* Extended Edition Version 1.2 Communications
Manager (CM) allows users to interactively configure its X.25 feature
to work on any public X.25 network worldwide. To accomplish this
goal, the CM allows users to specify a large number of X.25 network
parameters (for more detailed information on these parameters and how
the CM allows you to interactively configure them, please refer to
the "OS/2 Extended Edition Version 1.2 System Administrator's Guide
for Communications").  These parameters are broken down into the
following groups:
      +    Base Link Parameters
      +    Virtual Circuit Ranges
      +    Frame Parameters
      +    Packet Timeouts
      +    Virtual Circuit Parameters
      +    Permanent Virtual Circuit Parameters

The following Base Link Parameters specify both link connection
information and network-related information. Link connection
information specifies characteristics of the link itself, while
network-related information specifies characteristics of the network
that the link is connected to.
      +    Network Type
      +    Local DTE Address
+    Operating Mode (DTE or pseudo-DCE for connecting a PS/2 to
another DTE back-to-back using modems or modem eliminators)
      +    Local CCITT Compliance (1980 or 1984)
+    Initial Link Mode (Connect, Autoconnect or Disconnect)
+    Disconnect Delay Timeout (only required for Autoconnect links)
+    Link Setup Mode (DTE or DCE initiated)
+    Transpac VX32 Modem (specifies whether or not this modem
is used)
+    Connection Timeout (for switched physical links; only
required when the VX32 modem is used)

The following Virtual Circuit Ranges Parameters specify the
range of logical channel numbers that can be assigned to permanent
virtual circuits (PVCs) and switched virtual circuits (SVCs).
+    Lowest Permanent Virtual Circuit Number
      +    Number of PVCs
      +    Lowest Incoming-only SVC Number
      +    Number of Incoming-only SVCs
      +    Lowest Two-way SVC Number
      +    Number of Two-way SVCs
      +    Lowest Outgoing-only SVC
      +    Number of Outgoing-only SVCs

The following Frame Parameters specify information related to
the X.25 link layer.
