Abstract

Disclosed is a mechanism for locking and positioning the drawers of a magazine-type parts feeder used for robotic applications. The mechanism positively locates the drawer withdrawn from the magazine for service by the robot and locks it into position. At the same time, all other drawers are blocked to prevent forward movement into the robot work area. The other drawers can be withdrawn from the rear access by the operator.

Robotic Part Feeder Magazine Drawer-Locking And -Positioning Mechanism

Disclosed is a mechanism for locking and positioning the
drawers of a magazine-type parts feeder used for robotic
applications.  The mechanism positively locates the drawer withdrawn
from the magazine for service by the robot and locks it into
position.  At the same time, all other drawers are blocked to prevent
forward movement into the robot work area.  The other drawers can be
withdrawn from the rear access by the operator.

Referring to Fig. 1, the drawers are unlocked by moving lock
bar 13 upward with air cylinder 3.   A robot grasps button 8 and
withdraws drawer 2 from the magazine.  When drawer 2 is fully
extended, air cylinder 3 moves lock bar 13 downward.  The slot in
lock bar 13 engages pin 15 to secure the extended drawer 2.  The slot
in lock bar 13 is chamfered to correct the drawer position if minor
inaccuracy exists in the robot position.  All other drawers are
prevented from forward movement by blocking pin 14 with lock bar 13.

Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, while the drawers are unlocked,
magnet 10 keeps the drawers from shifting.  Access to drawers other
than the one extended is gained by sliding retainer plate 4 up with
handle 6 until it is clear of shoulder of screw 7.  Retainer plate 4
can then swing out on hinge 8 allowing the drawers 2 to be retracted
from the magazine towards the rear.
