Functional Memory Card Design for Mix of Types of Half Good Parts

Unused input/outputs (I/Os) are tied to good I/Os on
functional memory cards to allow mounting any of six half good types
of memory chips (six chip part numbers) on a single card part number.

Referring to Fig. 1, six possible half good chip part numbers
are reduced to three by wire bonding only useable I/Os to specific
module data pins D0 and D1 with no connections (N/C) at the other two
I/Os, thus requiring three separate memory card part types A, B, and
C.

Referring to Fig. 2, pairing two I/Os on a functional memory
card, as shown, results in the ability to accommodate all six of the
chip part numbers on one card part type. With D0 and D2 tied together
on the functional memory card, half good part numbers A and C of Fig.
1 have D0 good and D2 not connected on the memory module.  Half good
part B has D2 good and D0 not connected on the memory module.  With
D1 and D3 also tied together on the card, half good part A of Fig.
1 has D1 good and D3 not connected on the memory module. Half good
parts B and C have D3 and D1 not connected on the memory module.  The
following table summarizes the preceding connection (x) and no
connection (NC) description:
