Checkout Parameter Set

This article describes a mechanism to permit enterprise
users, with appropriate authority to an object, to check out the
object for editing.

When an object is revisable, any enterprise user with
appropriate authority to the object may want to check out the object
for editing.  No other modification to the object should be in
progress when the object is checked out to ensure that the integrity
of the object be kept. No mechanism prior to this architecture exists
in the Document Interchange Architecture to provide such a function.

This article provides a mechanism whereby an enterprise user,
with at least "change" authority to an object, can check out the
object for editing.  This function is provided by creating a new
parameter set, the CHECKOUT PARAMETER SET, in the library model
object upon successfully checking out the object, and by changing the
state of the checked-out object from revisable-unlocked to
revisable-locked to prevent other users from also checking out the
object or modifying the object until it is checked back in.  The
CHECKOUT PARAMETER SET has the information of the object checked out.
Information, such as the user to whom the document is checked out,
the date and time when the object was checked out, etc., is kept in
the CHECKOUT PARAMETER SET. This CHECKOUT PARAMETER SET will be
deleted when the object is subsequently checked in.
