Abstract

Illustrated in the figure is a specimen rod 1 of a vibrating sample magnetometer which has an axial passage 2 that extends to a depth 3 where it connects to a radial passage 4 connected to a source of vacuum. A partial vacuum is created at the attachment surface 5 which enables the specimen rod to maintain a sampling contact sufficient to overcome gravitational and acceleration forces.
