Paper Holder, Feed And Hinge Assembly for Hand-Held Terminal

This article describes a paper holder, feed and hinge
assembly design wherein a printer paper roll and a paper feed
mechanism is placed in a small hand-held terminal. Continued

The drawing shows the design disclosed herein in exploded
perspective view.  The design is a "clam-shell" type, where the top
portion or screen folds down over the bottom portion, the keyboard,
creating a harmonious assembly.  The placement of the print paper
roll within the hinge portion helps maintain the design objective,
which is a small footprint with no protruding appendages.  This
design makes use of available space to house the paper spool.

The sleeve in the hinge assembly between the left and right
hinge pins is modified with slots and ribs to allow placement of a
paper roll and its associated feed chute (not shown) to hold and
direct paper to a miniature printer (not shown) mounted in the body
of the terminal.  In addition, the paper roll is secured in position
by a barrelled door, all within the profile of the hinge assembly.
This design provides for expandability to accommodate various printer
and paper widths.
