Abstract

Disclosed is a method of mapping the VM files to AIX* files. Porting the VM programs to the AIX environment requires resolving the differences between VM and AIX file attributes. File attributes on VM are name, type, mode, record length, being fixed or variable, whereas AIX files have only a name.

Mapping the VM Text Files to the Aix Text Files

Disclosed is a method of mapping the VM files to AIX*
files. Porting the VM programs to the AIX environment requires
resolving the differences between VM and AIX file attributes.  File
attributes on VM are name, type, mode, record length, being fixed or
variable, whereas AIX files have only a name.

To resolve these differences, a VM file called "FN FT FM" is
translated to an AIX file called FM/FN.FT.  This is a meaningful
translation since FM is translated to the path name, FN stays as the
file name and FT maps to a file extension which is similar to the
file language sources.

This scheme is used for porting the VM REXX EXECIO to the RT*.
