Abstract

Disclosed is a program that allows Development Engineering to create a Bills of Material (B/M) structure for a given product and loads the corporate Development and Production Records System (DPRS). The PEP B/M Worksheet is one element that comprises the Paperless Engineering change Processing (PEP) system. PEP is a relational database (SQL/ DS) engineering change (EC) processing system designed to create, update, approve, track, and transmit a change package electronically.

       Disclosed is a program that allows Development
Engineering to create a Bills of Material (B/M) structure for a given
product and loads the corporate Development and Production Records
System (DPRS).  The PEP B/M Worksheet is one element that comprises
the Paperless Engineering change Processing (PEP) system.  PEP is a
relational database (SQL/ DS) engineering change (EC) processing
system designed to create, update, approve, track, and transmit a
change package electronically.

      The PEP B/M Worksheet allows the designer/engineer to create
and build a B/M dynamically, because it truly is a worksheet.  Data
requirements are minimal allowing information to be added to the
worksheet as needed, yet auditing the data as the B/M is constructed.
In addition to creating bills from the PEP B/M Worksheet, existing
B/Ms can be revised.  The affected documents are retrieved softcopy
from DPRS and placed in the PEP database for softcopy markup, thus
providing greater flexibility when creating a B/M and interfacing the
information to downstream systems earlier in the change cycle.

      B/M comprehension has been tremendously improved due to the way
the PEP B/M Worksheet is displayed.  The engineer no longer has to
interpret the Substitute/Optional part number portion of a B/M as the
PEP B/M Worksheet logically links the Prime content part numbers to
the Substitute/Optional part numbers.
