An originator of a distribution may request that a confirmation status be sent back to the originator upon delivery of the distribution to the recipient. The recipient may wish to convey to the original originator additional information pertaining to the confirmation status. A recipient may have designated another individual to process the recipient's mail, in such a case, the recipient may wish to notify the originator who requested the confirmation status how long an individual will be acting on the recipient's behalf. This article describes a mechanism in IBM's Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) by which an enterprise can convey to the requester of a confirmation of delivery supplemental information.
