AIX 1553 B Communications Handler

       Disclosed is a Mil-Std-1553B communications handler
software package that allows application programs that run under the
Advanced Interactive Executive (AIX*) operating system to communicate
with a Mil-Std-1553B subsystem from across a Multibus II** parallel
system bus.

      The handler software is a library of user interface subroutines
written in C language.  The subroutines allow user application
programs written at some high level language (e.g., C, ADA) to send
1553B commands to remote terminals on a 2553B data bus through a
Multibus II parallel system bus.  The operation is depicted in the
figure.  The handler 10 sends programming instructions in the form of
unsolicited messages across the Multibus II bus 12 through a device
driver.  The Mil-Std-1553B I/O adapter board 14 receives the
unsolicited messages and sends the proper 1553B command out to the
1553B data bus 16.

      The handler allows user applications to configure the I/O
adapter board 14 as bus controller or remote terminal on the 1553B
16.  In either configuration, the handler 10 allows the application
programmer to:
1.   Transfer data across the 1553B bus from bus controller to remote
terminal.
2.   Transfer data across the 1553B bus from remote terminal to bus
controller.
3.   Transfer data across the 1553B bus from one remote terminal to
another remote terminal.
4.   Simulate from 1 to 32 remote terminals on the 1553 bus
