Abstract

Provided is a method for changing the text color of the class name of an object in the class hierarchy browser for those classes and methods which have been changed or added by the user. Such a method is currently being implemented for the Smalltalk V/PM (Presentation Manager*) class hierarchy browser but would be appropriate for a browser in any object-oriented language.

Class Method Highlighter

Provided is a method for changing the text color of the
class name of an object in the class hierarchy browser for those
classes and methods which have been changed or added by the user.
Such a method is currently being implemented for the Smalltalk V/PM
(Presentation Manager*) class hierarchy browser but would be
appropriate for a browser in any object-oriented language.

The benefits of the class method highlighter being added to a
class hierarchy browser are:
o   easier for developer to identify changes made to existing classes
o   easier for developer to identify original class hierarchy
o   increased programmer efficiency
o   reduced confusion on which classes have been modified
o   new tool for object-oriented programming systems
Natural extensions to this solution are:
o   color codes for special meanings
o   support for versioning of classes through multi-colored text
o   support for multi-developer environment with shared class
hierarchy through multi-colored text
