Abstract

Patchable Control Word is a reserved field set aside in selected code during development cycle. This Patchable Control Word may be designed for future functional enhancement and will be placed within the selected code. The design, size, and uses of the Patchable Control Word would be left up to the designer. By using an EXTERNAL reference that may be monitored by all/many code modules, the control may be effective across an entire system.

Patchable Control Word for Development Use in Lab/Field Error Data Collection

Patchable Control Word is a reserved field set aside in
selected code during development cycle.  This Patchable Control Word
may be designed for future functional enhancement and will be placed
within the selected code. The design, size, and uses of the Patchable
Control Word would be left up to the designer.  By using an EXTERNAL
reference that may be monitored by all/many code modules, the control
may be effective across an entire system.

Diagnostic Control Word is defined at code build time and
Initialized at Compile time with Control "ACTIVATE" turned "OFF".
The location for patching the Diagnostic Control Word will be
supplied by a developer at build time and the PATCH controlled by
human intervention.

During RUNTIME this area will be monitored by selected code.
The primary purpose will be to code conditions or tests that are
perceived as future enhancements.  During the development cycle you
will put in place the format of the patchable Control Word and also
code the functional usage of this area.  During LAB/FIELD conditions
when such times arise that require this future condition to be met,
the PATCH may be loaded and the new events would be selected.

Shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is a way in which the Patchable Control
Word may be used.  There are no limits to the usage, given when and
where you may choose to implement this concept.
