       This article describes a device that plugs into the
processor socket of a processor card and checks the card bus wiring
for shorts.

      During card bring-up effort, many cases of shorts and opens on
address, data, parity and control lines have been encountered.  These
bus faults are extremely time-consuming to find in a 32-bit-wide
address and data bus environment.

      The processor platform fixture (PPF) device disclosed herein is
shown in functional block diagram in the drawing. This PPF acts as an
emulator running code from its programmable read-only memory (PROM)
to test a circuit under test (CUT).  The PPF is a daughter card which
contains a processor, a local address and data bus that interfaces to
local PROM memory, a bus switching mux to interface to the CUT
processor bus, sequence and control mux and PROM logic, a control
programmable array logic (PAL), two HEX displays and a reset switch.
The bus switching mux is addressed in the processor's address space
and selects between the local bus for running local PROM test code
and the CUT bus for testing the CUT.  The PAL controls the bus
switching mux and provides the necessary control and decode signals
for the HEX displays.

      In operation for interconnection testing of the CUT, the PPF is
plugged into the main CUT's processor socket. The PPF mechanically
acts like a daughter card to the CUT.
