Abstract

Disclosed is the OS/2* Extended Edition Common Install driver program. Its primary function is to simplify the installation and removal of OS/2 Extended Edition as a "seamless" design to the end user. The following key areas describe how this function is accomplished. The OS/2 Extended Edition Common Install Driver program: 1. Provides selective install of OS/2 Extended Edition components, and each OS/2 Extended Edition component's install program provides selective feature installation within the component. If a previous release of an OS/2 Extended Edition component is installed, the user can select to remove it from the fixed disk. 2. The ability to install each component on any fixed disk address in the range of "C" to "Z".

       Disclosed is the OS/2* Extended Edition Common Install
driver program.  Its primary function is to simplify the installation
and removal of OS/2 Extended Edition as a "seamless" design to the
end user.  The following key areas describe how this function is
accomplished.  The OS/2 Extended Edition Common Install Driver
program:
1.  Provides selective install of OS/2 Extended Edition components,
and each OS/2 Extended Edition component's install program provides
selective feature installation within the component.  If a previous
release of an OS/2 Extended Edition component is installed, the user
can select to remove it from the fixed disk.
2.  The ability to install each component on any fixed disk address
in the range of "C" to "Z".  The OS/2 Extended Edition Common Install
Driver prompts the user for the target drive of each component when
it is selected for installation.  The PATH, DPATH, and LIBPATH
statements in CONFIG.SYS are updated based upon the target drive
specified by the user and the default directory structure found in
each component's directory table, the "DIR" tables.
3.  Has a common set of termination panels and determines which panel
to display based upon the return codes of all of the selected
components:  a) Installation Complete panel with updates to the
CONFIG.SYS, b) Installation Complete panel with no updates to the
CONFIG.SYS, c) Installation Complete panel when LAN Requester
reinstall process, d) Installation Complete panel when the user
generates a basic configuration file for Remote Data Services,  e)
OS/2 Extended Edition Error panel, and f) Not enough space panel.
4.  Gives the user the ability to selectively remove components/
features of the OS/2 Extended Edition components.
5.  Gives the user a "seamless" OS/2 Extended Edition install process
and many "Ease of Use" improvements.
