Vacuum Pin Feed

       This article describes a method of enhancing pin feed by
use of a vacuum.

      The die and feed tube assembly configuration is shown in Fig.
1.  As shown, the quills are in the upper position to allow the feed
tube assembly to slide into pin load position.

      Fig. 2 shows the feed tube assembly in a loading position.  The
quills are dropped out of the die into the vacuum chamber between the
guide and die.  At this point the pins are pulled by the vacuum into
the die.

      The next step (Fig. 3) shows the quills raised into the die
section to cut off the vacuum.  The quill height must be set to align
the top of the pins flush with the die face. This will allow the feed
tube assembly to slide away.

      In Fig. 4 the quills are raised to the desired pinning location
or height.
