Vibration Isolation Using Secondary Mounting Plate

       Disclosed is a means of isolating a disk file module from
vibration in a rack mounting drawer.  A secondary mounting plate is
interposed between the disk file and drawer structure but isolated by
anti-vibration mounting grommets.

      Several modular disk files are required to be fitted in a
single rack-mounted drawer with each disk file held in a pair of
guide rails within the drawer.  Rigid mountings would cause excessive
levels of vibration to the disk files installed in the drawer due to
the flexible nature of the drawer and the heavy mass of the disk
files.  This method decouples the masses from the drawer structure,
resulting in isolation of the first mode of vibration.

      The figure shows an arrangement of a single disk file 2 ready
to be mounted on a pair of rails 6 by pushing mounting plate 3 in
direction 7 into the drawer (not shown).  Disk file 2 has a rigid
plate 1 attached to it which is separated from the drawer mounting
plate 3 by four anti-vibration mounting grommets 4 which are
installed in the mounting plate 3.  Four shouldered bolts 5 which
screw into plate 1 keep the grommets in contact with plate 1 but
allow vibratory movement of disk file unit 2 with reference to plate
3.
