       Disclosed is a method that allows a hardware/software
package to transmit and receive digitally recorded data from a
central Distribution Center and re-recorded at remote Point-of-Sale
(POS) outlet locations.  The complete system overview is shown in
Fig. 1.

      The system disclosed provides a satellite communication
protocol for the digital CD data transmissions and a standard
telecommunication protocol for control/order-processing
transmissions.  The satellite communication protocol provides a
mechanism for data transmissions at rates that far exceed those
possible over normal telephone lines.

      The system utilizes a unique CD Subsystem Controller which
allows the digital data to flow uninterrupted from the satellite
receiver directly to a generic Compact Disc read/write unit.  An
overview of the CD Subsystem Controller is shown in Fig. 2.
1.   Data request from POS outlet Host System to Distribution Center
over standard telecommunication interface.
      2.   Transfer data command issued from POS Host System to POS
CD-Subsystem over POS Host/Subsystem interface.
      3.   Establish data-link between Distribution Center and POS
CD-Subsystem over Satellite interface.
      4.   Digital data transmitted from Distribution Center to POS
CD-Subsystem.
      5.   Digital data received and transferred to CD-Writer over CD
Write Unit interface.
