Flexible Circuit Interconnection System

       Disclosed is an interconnection system to electrically
connect signal pulses and ground between a printed circuit board and
flexible circuit cables.

      The interconnection system utilizes a flexible circuit 2,
hereinafter called a "connector flex", consisting of a flexible film
of suitable dielectric material with printed circuit wiring which may
be of controlled impedance, with a means for attaching to a printed
circuit board.  The connector flex has an array of contact pads on
each limb capable of establishing reliable, separable electrical
connections.  The connector flex is bent into a U-shaped channel and
electrically connected in the vicinity of the channel base to the
board which is provided with a means for attachment of the connector
flex.  The connector flex printed signal and ground lines are
arranged in an alternating pattern which serves to minimize the
electrical discontinuity of the connections.  Supplemental shielding
is provided in the connector flex by a ground/reference plane to
produce a microstrip structure in addition to the circuit line
pattern in the signal plane.  To further improve shielding, a second
ground plane on the other side of the signal plane can be used to
complete a triplicate structure. The connector flex circuit lines
