Keyed Ac/Dc Battery Backup Cable

Disclosed is an AC/DC power cable that prevents damaging
a power supply which is designed to operate from AC power only by
inadvertently plugging the supply into a DC Battery Backup Unit.  The
cable is keyed at both ends allowing connection between a keyed power
supply and a keyed Battery Backup Unit.

The power supplies which are compatible with the Battery Backup
Unit are capable of operating from AC or DC primary power.
Therefore, they must accept both a standard power cable and a special
AC/DC Battery Backup Cable.  Other power supplies which are
incompatible with the Battery Backup Unit must not accept the AC/DC
Battery Backup Cable. Therefore, there is a need for a keyed power
inlet on the power supply.

The Battery Backup Unit outlets must accept only the keyed
AC/DC Battery Backup cable.  The outlets must not accept a standard
power cable. Therefore, there is a need for a keyed power outlet on
the Battery Backup Unit.

The power inlet 6 of the power supply 4 is a standard
IEC320/CEE 22 part, which accepts a standard power cable plug.  The
power supply key 3 is a hole adjacent to the power inlet.  This hole
accepts the key 1 of the plug 2 on the keyed AC/DC cable 5.

The power outlet 7 of the Battery Backup Unit 9 is a standard
IEC 320/ CEE 22 part.  The Battery Backup Unit keys consists of tabs
8 which accept the keys 10 of plug 11 on the keyed AC/DC cable, but
do not accept a...
