Telephone Keypad Assist for Terminal/System Function

       The telephone's keypad is used to significantly enhance
the useability of the terminal user's system.  Specifically, the
phone's keypad could be used to provide an additional set of
interface capabilities.

      Voice Data Integration (VDI) has several meanings in different
environments.  With regard to the terminal and phone environment, VDI
can refer to the terminal, or system, assisting in telephone
functions, such as conference calling, or call forwarding, or add
party to call, etc.

      This disclosure relates to the reverse potential, the telephone
keypad assisting in terminal/system functions. Specifically, the
system uses the phone's keypad:
      1.   in conjunction with the terminal to assist in, for
example, PF-key functions,
      2.   to provide an additional set of PF-keys to improve the
user's capability with the system,
      3.   to convey to the system, via one more human interface,
messages that are awkward to convey on the fully-utilized terminal
screen,
      4.   to double the number of function keys and also to convey
messages to the system without occupying the command line,
      5.   in conjunction with the keyboard's PF-keys to add a large
set of capabilities using the additional input capability of the
user, and
      6.   to reduce the need for double-keying; the need to depress
two keys at the same time to alter the meaning of...
