Asynchronous Print Application Interface

This article describes an application programming
interface (API) in a centralized print format processing program.

This API performs print processing in the background to allow
other processing to occur in the foreground. The print format
processing can take a significant amount of time during which the
computer system is busy and the user is prevented from doing any
other processing such as loading and editing another document.

The solution is to provide the application the capability of
performing print formatting processing in the background. Also, add a
function to monitor the number of print formatting processors that
are executing.

Some of the unique features of the API:
1) Coded for the OS/2* Presentation Manager* environment
2) In a dynamically linked library (DLL)
3) Single entry point for all office print operations
