Abstract

It is required to mount on a printed circuit card a potentiometer with an rim operated control wheel to project through a slot in an operator panel with compliance between the wheel and the surrounding bezel and fixtures to avoid stresses on the potentiometer membrane. The control wheel rim is able to float relative to its hub.

Compiant Potentiometer Wheel

       It is required to mount on a printed circuit card a
potentiometer with an rim operated control wheel to project through a
slot in an operator panel with compliance between the wheel and the
surrounding bezel and fixtures to avoid stresses on the potentiometer
membrane.  The control wheel rim is able to float relative to its
hub.

      Referring to Fig. 1, the rim 1 of a control wheel is attached
to its hub by radial flexible spokes 3.  The wheel is fitted axially
on a potentiometer 4 which is assembled on a printed circuit card 5

      Referring to Fig. 2, card 5 is mounted in the case 10 of an
electronic equipment by means of a slot 6 which locates rigidly into
bezel runners 7 allowing the wheel rim 1 to project through aperture
9 in case 10 to allow adjustment by finger pressure from outside.  A
dimension x shown in Fig. 3 is calculated to ensure that rim 1 always
contacts the ribs 8 on either side of aperture 9 preventing vertical
pressure onto potentiometer 4 from the operator. Variations in
tolerance are taken out by the flexible spokes 3 which allow the rim
1 to operate at an angle to the card 5.
