Generic LAN Datascope

       Disclosed is a program for tracing data on LAN mediums.
The Generic LAN Datascope provides a consistent interface for LAN
monitoring and troubleshooting on an LLC or higher protocol basis.

      The Generic LAN Datascope is comprised of hardware-dependent
and common code components. Hardware-dependent code provides a
consistent interface for a single common code component to access
various LAN mediums.  Hardware-dependent code components interface
individual hardware adapters providing multi-media LAN support.

      Common code provides manipulation of traced data, offering a
full complement of filter and trigger definitions.  The figure
illustrates the Generic LAN Datascope components.

      FILTERS (reference 1 in the drawing) - allow for frame
selection based on frame fields (LLC, higher layer protocols and/or
frame data).  This function is used for frame storage (memory/disk),
frame display and selective highlighting.

      TRIGGERS (reference 2 in the drawing) - allow user to specify
first and/or last frames to be traced, based on frame fields (LLC,
higher layer protocols and/or frame data).

      SEARCH (reference 3 in the drawing) - allows user to locate
frames based on frame fields (LLC, high layer protocols and/or frame
data).

      SCROLL (reference 4 in the drawing) - allows user to browse
buffer pool in "Frame Header" or "Frame Detailed" modes.
