Pulldown Techniques for Fields And Lists

Provided is a technique to allow use of pulldown techniques on
entry and list fields in order to overcome deficiencies in current
field techniques.

The user is provided with conventional field and list
functionality, e.g., enter/revise data, view options, view
properties, etc.  However, the visual presentation of the field or
list and its supporting function is made more graphic by using "map
board" and pulldown menu concepts. The options associated with the
field are displayed below the field via small visual tabs.  Via
pointer or keyboard techniques, the user can select the options for
subsequent interaction.  Selection results in displaying a pulldown
menu, and the user can interact with one or more other pulldowns as
desired.  For example, if Help is a valid option for a field or list,
then a visual tab is displayed below the field.  The user sees that
Help is a valid option and can select it as appropriate.

The benefits to the user include new function, ease of
learning, increased awareness of field functions, improved usability,
and consistency with conventional entry fields and pulldown selection
techniques.
