Abstract

Ultrasonic bonding assures cap and strain relief positioning and retention. In the figure, insulation displacement connector housing 1 connects to cable 2 beneath cap 3 that also carries strain relief 4. The connector housing, cap and strain relief are all of polymeric material and are welded by ultrasonic bonding. Cap 3 and the connector housing are joined by welds at point 5 and along edge 6, while strain relief 4 is joined to the cap along edges 7.
