User Viewports for Columnar Lists

This article describes a technique for providing the user with
a means to dynamically customize a columnar list.  This technique
provides the user with the means to choose the columns he/she wishes
to see and the order in which they will appear.

The user needs the capability to dynamically customize the
columnar list that he/she is working on. There may not be room for
all of the columns of data to appear in the list's window.  (i.e., a
library list could have over 10 columns of data). The user may wish
to see certain columns and exclude others.  In addition, the user may
wish to change the order in which the columns appear.

The solution is to allow an application to display a dialog box
that contains a vertical list of all the column headers for the list
that the user wishes to modify. The headings will have entry fields
containing ascending numbers starting with one appearing to the right
of the header names.  These numbers indicate the order the columns
will be displayed left to right (e.g., left most column in list would
be 1).  Columns currently not being displayed would have a zero to
the right of the header.  The user may change the numbers as he/she
would wish the columns listed.  The user would type a zero next to
columns that he/she wished removed from the list.

The results of this activity would be passed to the list
control in the LM_DS_ALTERPRESSTYLE message parameter 2 field as...
