Icon Technique for Multiple Object Views

Provided is a technique which allows users to create multiple
copies of objects via icon (or conventional list) selection to
overcome deficiencies in current systems.

Users are provided with conventional lists of objects in text,
iconic, or graphic form.  In addition, users are allowed to copy
selected objects via selection and command bar access of the copy
function.  The following enhancements are provided:
o  Selection of objects in the list via mouse or keyboard or other
devices
o  Selection of the object representation opens a window with a view
of the object
o  The object is still available for selection, e.g., the icon or
list object can be reselected and reselections open other views into
the object in separate windows (as in making automatic copies)
o  The original object can be saved, printed, or discarded without
impact to open views
o  Each new view can be edited and saved as unique objects or
discarded without impact to the original object

The benefits to the end user are new function and reduced
worksteps for creating object copies using a technique which is easy
to learn and use.
