Convey the Auto-Forwarding History to Mail Recipient

This article describes a method for conveying information about
distributions which have been auto-forwarded through a network. A
procedure  and mechanism is needed to provide information as to the
originators of a distribution and if the distribution was
automatically forwarded from the originators network node.

By providing a self-defining construct which identifies the
originator and a field which represents a boolean value if the
distribution was auto-forwarded, an individual node upon receiving
the distribution attaches an identifier which uniquely identifies the
enterprise within the network and attaches the boolean value which
represents if the individual node is auto-forwarding the
distribution.

This mechanism and procedure permits enterprises to identify
and audit a distribution as the distribution is being distributed
through the network. A recipient of such a distribution could examine
all previous recipients and determine which recipients automatically
forward the distribution. Furthermore, this mechanism and procedure
could be utilized to prevent auto-forward "looping" of a distribution
through a network. An individual node upon receiving a distribution
could examine the list of recipients who auto-forwarded the
distribution, and if the individual node should be identified as one
of the recipients who auto-forward the distribution, then the
individual node could determine the...
