Mixed Gesture And Other Data Types

Provided is a technique which allows users to mix gestural
input with other data types (e.g., text) to overcome deficiencies of
conventional systems.

Users are provided with conventional techniques for handling
objects of different types, e.g., text, graphics, charts, and image.
The following enhancements are provided:
Allow incorporation of non-gesture objects into the
gestural system, e.g., document, charts, etc.
Allow gestural actions upon non-gesture objects, e.g.,
insert blank lines in a document; delete text, add
text, etc.; create an area in a document and automatic
text reflow; draw a table, chart, figure, etc.
Similarly, allow non-gesture actions to be applied to
objects with gestural data, e.g., allow typing into a
      gestural document.

The benefits to the end user are reduced keystrokes and
worksteps, improved usability, easy to learn, and a natural means of
interfacing with computers.
