User Notification of List Processing Action Repository

      This article describes a method for notifying the list
processing user of which a repository listed item will be placed into
at the conclusion of a list processing action.

      The user interface presented by a list processing application
allows the user to perform a set of actions on the listed items.  The
selected action is not performed until the user has worked with all
the items on the list. As an action is requested, the user interface
is updated to remind the user of the action requested for each
specific item.

      This provides the user the opportunity to change the action
requested before processing takes place.  On an action, such as FILE,
SAVE, or COPY the user knows the action, but not the final repository
into which the item will be placed.  For this invention, the name of
the repository specified by the user to the list processing system is
displayed for the user's consideration along with the action
requested.  The list processor initializes the end user interface
with a list of items reserving fields for action to be performed and
repository name. Initially these fields have no information, when the
user specifies an action requiring a repository and the user
specifies the name of a repository, the repository name is displayed
in the reserved field on the end user interface.  If the user does
