Delegate Function for Facsimile Machine

An algorithm is described that provides the ability to
automatically forward incoming fax transmissions to one or more
alternate machines.

When a facsimile user is away for an extended period of time,
it is often desirable to have received communications routed to a
backup person and/or forwarded to the user's temporary location.

Delegate is an operator selectable function which requests the
telephone numbers of the alternate machine(s). The operator could
also specify other options, such as whether or not to retain a local
copy, to notify the sender that the transmission is being forwarded,
and to forward the personal/confidential transmissions.

A receiving machine with memory would store the received data.
The machine would then forward the data to the alternate phone
number(s) and optionally print a local copy and/or delete the copy in
memory.  An alternative implementation of this function would be to
have two modems and phone lines instead of memory.

A receiving machine without memory would notify the sending
machine that delegate is active and provide the sending machine with
instructions (e.g., the alternate phone numbers).  The sender could
then forward the data rather than the receiver.  The sending machine
could have the option to notify its operator before automatically
sending to an alternate number.  The sending machine could have a
setup option to never forward a...
