Multi-Flow Range Chilled Water Verification Tool

      Disclosed is a tool for verifying the chilled water capacity of
an installation site.  The tool matches the pressure drop of a
coolant distribution unit over a 10:1 flow range. However, only a
single, dual-scale differential pressure gage is required to provide
accurate flow readings over the entire range.

      The tool, as shown in the figure, has a single gage with dual
flow paths.  For the lower half of the flow range, the valve found in
one of the two paths is closed.  For the upper half of the flow
range, the valve will be open.  This parallel flow arrangement, along
with the valve and dual-scale gage, allows a single gage to provide
accurate readings over twice the normal flow range.

      To insure that the tool will closely match the pressure drop of
the coolant distribution unit over the entire flow range, the lengths
and diameters of the hose, tubing, and fittings are chosen to match
the characteristics of the coolant distribution unit.  The parallel
flow portion of the tool is kept short.  This allows the tool to
match the pressure drop of the coolant distribution unit with the
valve open or closed.
