Method for Providing Electrostatic Discharge On Keyboards

      Disclosed is a method for providing electrostatic discharge
through a keyboard; the electrostatic charge build-up is present in
the operator and is discharged during use of the keyboard.

      A conductive path from the operator to ground (see figure) is
provided by molding the keybutton nomenclature cap (1) from a
conductive polymer (carbon or stainless steel-filled polyester, for
example), which contacts a conductive foam or rubber gasket (2) when
the keybutton is depressed; the conductive gasket is attached to
ground through various methods, such as conductive adhesives, wire
connections (3), etc.  One or more key positions may be present in a
keyboard to provide the electrostatic discharge.
