Molded Monitor Card Support And Cover Panel

      Disclosed is a monitor card support designed to serve as a
retainer and supporting structure for the monitor card during
assembly, shipment and in the finished product.  It also serves as an
integral part of the external cover set and provides both mechanical
and electrical I/O for attaching the logic element.

      The support/panel was designed so that low-cost card materials
with lower mechanical strength properties could be used without being
damaged.  It was also designed to support the card such that all
plated through hole interconnects could be eliminated.

      Extensive support and retention features were required in this
support/panel to insure both the card material and the component
solder features include a series of edge latches and hooks for card
retention and positioning as well as bosses for center card support.
A large shelf edge for card edge support was used, as well as a
webbed rib pattern to eliminate potential card bow and twist.

      In addition to supporting the card in the monitor, this card
support serves as an excellent "shipping container" for the monitor
card.  Due to the extensive reinforcement given to the card, this
allows the card stiffener shipment packaging to be minimized, thus
reducing cost.  In addition to this, the stiffener also reduces line
fallout due to card failures.
