Abstract

The figure illustrates a "step profile" disk clamp which clamps a stack of disks in a rigid disk storage device. The clamp is characterized by a step profile cross-section which distributes an axial clamp force more evenly around the circumference of a clamping surface than a similar clamp with a flat-plate profile.

Step-Profile Disk Clamp for Uniform Axial Clamping

      The figure illustrates a "step profile" disk clamp which clamps
a stack of disks in a rigid disk storage device.  The clamp is
characterized by a step profile cross-section which distributes an
axial clamp force more evenly around the circumference of a clamping
surface than a similar clamp with a flat-plate profile.

      The figure provides an isometric and cross-sectional view of
the step profile disk clamp 2.  Clamp 2 comprises a circular disk
with an annular relieved area 4 and screw clearance holes 6.  In a
clamped disk pack, a load is applied to annular relieved area 4
around clearance holes 6.
