High Resolution Resistive Ink

      For pictorial imaging, specifically using resistive print
technology, print spot areas less than 0.0015 square inches require
four times the pel performance as compared to typical correspondence
and graphics applications.

      The ink composition described in the example performs, in
conjunction with specific resistive requirements, to all requirements
of pictorial quality - for use in monochrome, and is extendable to
multi-color and re-use applications. The ink is based on an alcohol
soluble dimer-based polyamide and further, incorporates one or more
compounds specifically from the sulfonamide group.  The given
sulfonamide acts as a non-solvating plasticizer, and, in excess, acts
as an ebullient when the resistive thermal process exceeds its
boiling point.  The ink in Example I, at 1.0 mil thickness, prints at
8 milliamps of current at the printhead.
