Miniature True Triaxial Hermetic Electric Feedthru

      Disclosed is a device for the electrical isolation of highly
sensitive grounded electronic devices inserted in high voltage
electron beam apparatus or other electrically noisy in-vacuum
systems.

      Many situations exist where a miniature true triax hermetic
feedthru is potentially very useful.  For instance, in developing new
types of detectors or similar devices that insert into the vacuum
chamber of an electron beam apparatus, such as an SEM, it is
frequently desirable to isolate the detector ground from the
apparatus in order to reduce noise pick up by the detector through
common ground. Such electrical connectors do not seem to be
commercially available in miniature form.  This disclosure describes
a simple and inexpensive way to create such a feedthru which may be
used as either a permanent or easily removable fixture.

      The feedthru device shown in the Figure is constructed from
three readily available commercial parts, a 2-pin header 1, a
quick-couple 2 and 4, and an OSM hermetically sealed coaxial bulkhead
feedthru 3.  A 5/16 inch hole is diamond-core drilled through the
ceramic center of the header 1.  If the header has feedthru pins,
they are cut off flush to the ceramic and sealed with solder.  The
header is soldered to the o-ring compression ring of the quick couple
and the side edge of the header ground flush to the side of the quick
couple ring.  The coax feedthru 3 is attached...
