Abstract

Disclosed herein is a moving-magnet rotary voice-coil motor design applicable to optical files. A high energy magnet, such as one made of neodynium-iron, is fastened to the outer end of the moveable arm carrying the objective lens which must follow the track on the disk. The field from this magnet interacts with a pair of coils wound onto a core of magnetically permeable material, such as iron or ferrite. The assembly of coils and core is fastened to the base frame. The coils are oriented such that current in one produces focus motion and the other produces tracking motion. (Image Omitted)
