Provide Count Information in Document Relation Object

This article describes a method for providing the count
information in the Document Relation Object.

A library user may wish to know, at any point of time, the
total number of documents a given document is related to.  For
example, for a non-folder document, the user may want to know how
many folders in which this document resides; for a folder document,
the user may want to know how many documents this folder contains,
etc.  The current Document Interchange Architecture only provides the
information of the Library Assigned Document Name (LADN) of each
document that a given document is related to.  It does not provide
the count information.  This causes unnecessary hardships for both
the library users and implementers.

This article provides a mechanism whereby library users can
find out the total number of documents a document is related to.
This is provided by architecting four new "count" fields in all four
relationships (folder, document-in-folder, staplee, and stapler) of
the Document Relation Object.  As the document is entered into a
folder, removed from a folder, stapled by another document,
un-stapled by another document, stapled to another document, or
un-stapled to another document, the relevant count parameter will be
updated by the Library Service to reflect the most current situation.
