Disclosed is a cartesian coordinate robot in which the frame is made up of separate members. The robot work envelope size is determined by the lengths of the frame members. The length of each member of the frame can be optimized for a specific task.

Configurable Envelope Robot

      Disclosed is a cartesian coordinate robot in which the frame is
made up of separate members.  The robot work envelope size is
determined by the lengths of the frame members.  The length of each
member of the frame can be optimized for a specific task.

      With current technology, each of these configurations could be
modeled and computer simulated.  The use of these models could
predict dynamic performance, such as vibration and repeatability, of
the robot while performing a specific task.
