Rank Ordering Concept

Disclosed is a concept to rank order hardware design logic in
preparation for simulation of the logic.

The rank ordering concept is based on determining dependencies
between different relationships between logic gates and structures.
Two dependency relationships are used.  A dependency may be such that
a relationship feeding the current relationship must be evaluated
before the current relationship so the value of the feeding
relationship is available for the evaluation of the current
relationship.  An inhibitory relationship may exist such that the
current relationship may require an old value of another relationship
and hence the other relationship may not be evaluated until the
current relationship is evaluated using the old value of the other
relationship.  If there are no loops in the relationships, the
concept will create a flat layout of all relationships such that the
relationships may be traversed from the input relationships and will
end at the output relationships without having to create special
relationships to handle the old values for the inhibitory
relationships.
