Abstract
The recently-developed VeriChip (http://www.adsx.com/prodservpart/verichip.html) can be adapted to the Appliance industry to improve oven and microwave oven ease of use.  The device is a rice grain-sized chip than can be encoded with information and read by a scanner; it can contain cooking instructions which could be read to auto-detect settings.

Problem addressed
Today consumers must manually select the cooking settings for their frozen dinners.  To learn the correct settings, they must read the instructions written on the package.  This is time-consuming and inconvenient. In accordance with the system proposed herein, this task is eliminated by allowing the oven or microwave oven to auto-detect the appropriate settings.

This concept is based on the VeriChip, a rice grain-sized device that can be coded with information and transmit it via radio-frequency (RF).  A custom-designed VeriChip-like device would be encoded with the appropriate cooking instructions for frozen dinners (temperature, time) and fixed to each dinner's packaging.  The oven or microwave oven would use a scanner to read this information and relay it to the unit's controls.  The settings would then be selected by the unit.  The device would require a heat-resistant coating to withstand the environment of the oven.
