Abstract

The following describes the present publication: (1) Outband signalling in a token passing communication system. (2) The concept of: (a) releasing a token at the beginning of transmission rather than at the end of transmission; (b) the release of a token only allowing resolution of contention for the token (and the right to be the next to transmit) in parallel with the current transmission and not giving permission to start transmission until the current transmission has been completed; (c) the new token holder monitoring the transmission channel until it becomes available and then beginning transmission while simultaneously releasing the token at the beginning of transmission.

      The following describes the present publication:
(1)  Outband signalling in a token passing communication system.
(2)  The concept of:
      (a)  releasing a token at the beginning of transmission
           rather than at the end of transmission;
      (b)  the release of a token only allowing resolution of
           contention for the token (and the right to be the
           next to transmit) in parallel with the current
           transmission and not giving permission to start
           transmission until the current transmission has
           been completed;

      channel different from the channel where data is
