Notification Control Object for Asynchronous Request Queue

This article describes a method whereby an enterprise can
specify processing circumstances under which an enterprise will be
notified after completion of an asynchronous request.

An enterprise may wish to specify the conditions under which a
notification is desired for an asynchronous application software
request. An asynchronous application service may send unsolicited
notifications regardless of whether the request was successfully
completed.

A user may wish to only be notified if the asynchronous request
is unsuccessfully completed or abends. A user may wish notification
only if the process status is still actively being queued, as in the
case of an asynchronous request which is to be executed multiple
times. A mechanism is needed which permits enterprises and/or
individuals using an asynchronous application service to control
unsolicited responses of an asynchronous request on the basis of the
criteria under which the request was completed.

A self-identifying object which identifies a binary bit mask to
represent criteria for notification of an asynchronous request upon
its completion can be utilized to process an asynchronous request
notification. The mask values are utilized to represent such
situations as: notify if there is an error, notify if there is not an
error, notify if the request is still active, notify if the request
is inactive and other conditions which c...
