Stripe Disk

Illustrated in the figure is a tool which verifies the
operation of test hardware used to calculate runout, coning, and
acceleration on hard-disk magnetic media.

The tooling consists of a simulated hard-disk magnetic media 1
with a stripe of material 3 that is a known offset from the remainder
of the disks surface 2.  This stripe is used to illustrate a step
function in the media surface as seen by the geometry measuring
equipment 4.  The  stripe provides a calibration dimension for the
known offset.
