Visual Design Enhancements to Text Page Specifications

Provided are a set of graphic design techniques to improve the
visual presentation of information used to define text page
characteristics in order to remove deficiencies with current
implementations.

The user is provided with conventional page definition
capability, i.e., specification of page width, height, and margins.
In addition, the user is provided with the following:
O    A visual image of a text page
O    The numeric values for page characteristics are displayed inside
of parameter entry fields
O    The user can change page dimensions by changing values within
the fields or performing direct manipulation of page elements
O    Regardless of the technique used to change page characteristics,
the image of the text page and the contents of the field are
automatically updated to reflect the current value of page
characteristics.

The technique has general applicability to include
specification of characteristics of any visual object, e.g., charts,
tables, reports, etc.

The benefits to an end user include new functionality, improved
visual usability and esthetics, less visual fatigue, reduced errors,
and improved focus on information instead of data framing.
